Amateurs guess while experts know.

Everything from this point on will hinge on your keywords. Doing thorough research now will set a solid foundation to build on as you move forward. Guessing what keywords will work best is the single worst mistake beginners make when starting an internet business. I’ve been surprised many times while doing my keyword research.

As businesses evolve specific languages evolve as well. Be careful not to build your website around a set of keywords that the majority of people don’t use.

An example: Footwear and shoes are completely different things in search. The term “shoes” gets 921,372 searches on the overture network while “footwear” only gets 31,432. From that example we can see what a big difference your keywords can make.

This is only half of the equation because it only tells us the “supply” of a specific keyword. Supply is basically how popular a keyword phrase is. The next step is to focus on keywords that have healthy supply and low demand. Demand numbers show all the websites that are competing to be number one.

Watching these two technology giants grow up is interesting. Two things I got from it is first the passion and vision they both had for what they were doing. The second thing is that Steve Jobs is okay with stealing from Xerox but when Bill Gates steals from him he gets all bent out of shape. Rule number one for pirates is “Pirates steal stuff”. So don’t trust them.

The Culture of Being Hungry

Have you ever talked with someone about what you’re doing as an entrepreneur? After ten seconds did you literally see their eyes glaze over? On the other hand, have you talked with someone who gets what you’re doing and gets just as excited as you are? Why do some people get it and why do others have zero interest?

It’s because you are hungry for something and they don’t feel the same hunger that you do. They glaze over when you talk to them because they feel like they are full and content. They work nine to five and get a paycheck every two weeks. They went to college, studied hard, and got straight A’s. They knew how much they would make when they graduated and then they got exactly what they had expected. They are happy with where they are at in there lives. When people feel full or content there is very little that motivates them to change. In fact, that part of their brain shuts down completely. So when you talk with them about true financial independence through entrepreneurialism they shut off mentally. As an experiment, try talking with people about food after you’ve finished a huge meal and everyone is stuffed. You will experience the same disinterest in much the same way as before.

But we know that hunger changes people. When a person is hungry they will spend all their energy thinking about ways to satisfy their hunger. Every morning when they wake up they are thinking and all day long they are taking action. Nothing gets in the way of satisfying their goals. Instead of watching 20 hours of T.V. a week entrepreneurs would rather build something or solve difficult problems.

This hunger is ignited by a few factors. Some realize that working as a cog in a corporate machine will kill their spirit and smother their dreams. Others know that the “security” offered by “secure” jobs is nothing more than a thin disguise. And there are thousands more that believe that their destiny is in their own hands and that they are capable of great things. Whatever the reason one thing is certain, the hunger is real and it consumes our every thought. So the next time you see someone’s eyes glaze over remind yourself that hungry people are talking a different language and living in a different world.
